Shopify, one of the leading e-commerce platforms, recently announced the retirement of its native Reviews App, leaving many merchants wondering about the next steps for managing customer feedback.
With online reviews playing a crucial role in consumers' purchasing decisions, the absence of a built-in review system could pose challenges for businesses. However, this development also opens up opportunities for innovation and the integration of more advanced review solutions.
As a Shopify shop owner myself, I would like to share my experience in migrating the customer reviews, and the experience using a Reviews app - Judge.me from the marketplace.
Migrating Your Reviews
“On May 6, 2024, the Product Reviews app will be removed from Shopify, and is no longer available to install. After this time, you'll no longer have access to your existing product reviews, and reviews from the app will no longer display on your store.”
To continue collecting and displaying product reviews on your store, Shopify owners need to migrate to another product review app before May 6, 2024. Otherwise, all the reviews will be deleted along with the app.
First and foremost, you’ll need to export all your current reviews from Shopify native Review app.
Steps:

Login to your Shopify admin.

Navigate to “Product Reviews” - Shopify native Review app.

Select Export.
Install a Product Review App
To support your migration from the Product Reviews app, Shopify has partnered with the following five apps that can help sync your reviews between channels, including your online store and the Shop app:

Importing Reviews
Now that you have installed the new app, you can now import back your product reviews. I’d recommend following the instructions provided by the new app you’ve installed.
Install Reviews Widgets
Once you’ve installed the app and imported the reviews, you can install reviews widgets to your shopify theme.
Steps:

Login to Shopify Admin.

Go to Online Store > Themes on the left menu panel.

Click Cusotmize for the selected theme.

Then, install the widgets on the home page and product page.

If you’re looking for a free solution covering core functionalities, I’d definitely recommend going for Judge.me as this vendor offers unlimited reviews, unlike other players in the market.
The look and feel of the widgets design also looks nice and you can always customise the plugin using CSS.

You can select a few great reviews from your customers to showcase in your homepage to increase the trust and makes your brand looks reliable. There are a few more designs you may choose FoC!

You can also add average star ratings and the number of reviews received to your product page with Judge.me, this features is also similar to the Shopify Product Reviews app.

What’s more amazing is we have got a widget to collect and display product reviews on the product page itself! Not to mention the modern and professional look-and-feel!
